Sometimes as dancers, we get excited to start dancing and immediately dive into exercises that our bodies are not always ready or warm enough for. This is often where a lot of injuries happen. Warming up before taking a class, and stretching afterwards are two very important habits for a dancer to have. Not only will it keep your body healthy and safe, it will make you a better dancer in the long run.

5 minute warmup for turnout
Sometimes our turnout muscles need a little extra love to warm up before we dive into plies! The muscles we use to help our legs turnout are only the size of a thumbnail and are often difficult to find and activate. Here Julie will show you four exercises to continue working on finding those tricky turnout muscles!
Get your Splits as an Adult
Have you ever looked at a dancer’s beautiful grand jete. As adults who may have never danced when we were younger, it can be indicating to watch others who have extreme flexibility. However, there are stretches and exercises you can do to increase flexibility and help you get your splits even if you have never been able to do one! A penche is one of those ballet moves that can require a significant amount of flexibility to get that gorgeous 180 degree leg!
