Which Way to Face?! Your Free Video & PDF Gift! 🎁

Once you move away from the barre, understanding which way to face can feel like navigating a maze of arbitrary rules. The positions we take in ballet, known as "en facements," were carefully designed centuries ago to create the most beautiful and elongated lines for the dancer.

Each school of classical ballet has its own interpretation of these positions, but the underlying principles remain the same. Just like posing for a photograph, the way we stand and position our limbs significantly impacts how our bodies appear to the audience.

Ballet, after all, is a visual art form, and these en facements create a series of "pictures" that tell a story through movement. While memorizing these poses can be challenging at first, they become second nature over time, much like learning the grammar rules of a foreign language.
